Wednesday, February 24th - #4

Went for my cocktail today....came home at 4:30....seemed longer today...I think it was because the 'beeper' on the machine didn't beep when one cocktail was finished as the same with the other two...so I think that's what took about a half hour longer.

Dr. May (oncologist) said that she was thinking of reducing some of the meds due to the tongue sores...but she didn't because I am scheduled for a CT scan on this coming Tuesday and she would like to see the results with the meds all the same. For as bad as they were...I'm hoping and praying they won't be worse this time around.

I was really nervous going in today knowing that the pump has to be removed on Friday and with the weather forecast...the office will probably be closed. I called one of my 'nurse' friends and asked if she'd be able to flush and remove the pump...she agreed.....but then I had to call her back and tell her that WE - Charlie and I - are going to give it a try! The nurse showed us how to disconnect the cath. and flush. Maybe, just maybe...if we can do it ourselves...maybe we can do it ALL the time! They had a book that had a port and we practiced taking the cath out...I'm glad she showed us because it is easier than we thought. Charlie is a bit scared...he kind of passes out looking at needles...so I will have HIM sit down and I will stand. If he's sitting and passes out...he won't hurt himself falling! I think we have it covered!!!

I didn't have any symptoms going in today....when I arrived home I felt my legs heavy...and my fingers are tingling touching anything colder than room temperature...I don't have the shakes as bad as before....so, I'd say - so far so good...better than cocktail #3....but, lets see what happens within the next few days. I ate a pineapple fruit cup - or I should say, I tried...weird sensation...felt like my tongue was swelling up...got a little scared...drank water and it's fine. No tongue sore...just a tongue sensation! Still got the sensation in the jaw line with the first bite of dinner and snacks.

Sam was home 15 minutes before we left. My Mom decided that she'd have ME help her with her shower...poor lady...while the shower was running...someone used the hot water....burrr...Fay said the water was FREEZING!!! and it was....even turning off the cold water completely..it was still cold! Sam even stopped to buy me two jelly donuts from Dunkin Donuts....Nick brought me two on Sunday - a belated Valentine's Day present! I love those jelly dunkin donuts!!!

Sam made us dinner...chicken with roasted potatoes/onions/carrots...she didn't eat...she had a date for dinner....She did good! Thank goodness that ALL my kids enjoy cooking....guess they got that from me! the Sinatra side!!! Okay, all you Marra's...stop laughing! it could be from your side too. BUT one thing they did learn from me was not to use too many spices while cooking....something Charlie does...those ribs he made the other night had some tangy ingredients....I'm glad Sam told Charlie that...because he didn't believe me when I told him...a recipe from Uncle Bill! Nice try!
