It's amazing how God works in mysterious ways....when I went to the cancer center on Wednesday -- to pick up ALL my scan CD's and to talk to the clinical nurse about staying on the clinical trial -- I asked how often I need to get my port-a-cat flushed. It's every 6 weeks...so thinking that my last cocktail was six weeks ago - and I was there, I may as well do it. Well, first, I waited to talk to the nurse...then after deciding to get my port flushed, I had to wait - again! When you have a 'procedure' done they take your blood pressure, temp and oxygen level...I found out that my blood pressure was still high. We thought it may have been from the last scan that I took all the prednisone but the lower number was still high - 90...the nurse suggested that I call my regular doctor.
When I got home I called and they gave me an appointment for the following Thursday. Now, thinking that Easter is coming and Monday I consult with the surgeon -- I'm sure my blood pressure would be even higher....I called the doctor and left a message - he called me back and agreed -- he then gave me a script for the med I was taking before the chemo treatments.
During my treatments my blood pressure was on the low to normal side - never high.
My doctor still wants to see me on my scheduled appointment....doctors...boy oh boy, do I have alot of appointments!!!
If I didn't have my port flushed...I would have not thought about my bp...so, that's where I feel -- God works in mysterious ways!....and to be honest...I actually had my port flushed after I had that minor reaction to the iodine in my last CT scan which was April 1st.
The clinical study: I was going to get off of it..but the nurse said that they (the study) wants to keep me on! Guess when they have such a great report - they need that to be continued and not just stopped...The nurse wrote them that I was getting off due to my reaction to the iodine with the scans - they said that unless my oncologist orders one, I don't have to do them every 8 weeks (on the follow up they give you more time in between scan weeks - it has been every 6 weeks and now it's 8)...I decided to stay with the study - only having them either call or email me asking me a few questions.
