...great gifts for chemo patients....

If you know anyone that is beginning treatment or has been on treatment, I have found the following items being of great help:

  • baking soda - to use as mouthwash and/or toothpaste --- helps with mouth sores.

  • BIOTENE - a commercial product for 'dry mouth' they have assorted items...toothpaste and mouth wash are great...a little expensive but they are very soothing and comforting when brushing your teeth rather than using regular toothpaste.

  • Neutrogena soap/hand cream.

  • Dial soap - helps keep the moisture in your skin.

  • Luberderm Lotion,

  • Aquaphor healing ointment - advanced therapy,

  • Udderly Smooth - udder cream,

  • A&D first aid ointment.

  • Roux fanci full coloring styling mousse....for thinning hair...it stains the hair and scalp.

  • Eye shadow...for thinning eyebrows! yes, just add a little to the brush and stroke it onto your eye brows and blend in with your fingertip. An eyebrow pencil works but seems to be a bit too harsh or too hard to blend.

  • Vaseline for your eyelashes...but sometimes they will just fall out anyway.

  • if your finger tips get numb it's hard to use dental floss so using an electric water pick works great!

These are products that I have found to be very useful....depending on the actual treatment that they use on you...some work, some are a little helpful, some don't work at all.

I know when I had cracked skin around my fingernails...nothing seemed to help...and I had very dry skin (mostly on my arms and back) and the Luberderm was the most helpful...but not completely.

You'll also find that the products that are for 'general' use sometimes don't help when your getting any type of chemo.

Make sure the patient always consults with their oncologist before using any of the products I suggested.
