Friday, October 15th - #20 - day 9

Wow, I can't believe that I blogged last week....all is well...a little scare tonight....but let me start with yesterday.

To prepare for my 5th CT scan I had to take a total of 15 prednasone pills at 10 mg each. I took 5 at 9 pm; 5 at 3 am; and the last 5 at 9 am along with one benedryl. All this because the last scan - I had one tiny hive on my wrist. They said I was/am probably allergic to the 'iodine' in the IV contrast.

I had a hard time sleeping...I set Charlie's alarm clock for 3 am...I get up to go to the bathroom but not at a regular time...but I kept waking up thinking that Charlie would turn off the alarm before I heard it and then keep on sleeping through....I went to be late, a little after midnight...woke up every hour until 3...then back to bed and I figured I'd get a much better sleep knowing that I set my alarm clock next to me for 7 am....I woke at 6:15 am and couldn't fall back to sleep....Of course, not ever taking this med before, I kept thinking I was going to get somekind of reaction to the drug...not....until.......

Arrived at my scheduled time for my scan at 10 am. Charlie drove because I didn't know how my body reacted to the benedryl...did fine with it....we got to the facility five minutes earlier so I went to the cancer center to have my port accessed...a lot easier for them - not having to find a vein in my arm. After the scan the nurse told me that if for any reason I got a reaction to this - on my face - or anything above my neck, I should go directly to the emergency room. He told Charlie this too, so I wouldn't make light of any hives and wait it out.... Well, I cut Carol's hair and she noticed my left cheek was a little red - this was about 5 pm....I looked at it but didn't think anything of it. Then about 6:30 I noticed my entire left cheek was red and it was beginning on my left side of my face. I told Charlie that we should probably get to the hospital...now, it's dinner time and I made burgers for dinner...I was nervous so I couldn't eat and I called my friend Patty to see if she could come over to stay with Fay...she was ready to leave when I asked her. I told her I was going to call the oncologist....which she told me that it was probably a reaction to the steroid and to put a cool compress on it and take a bendryl....I did and two hours later it was alot better...I called Patty to cancel and thanked her for 'almost' coming to my rescue!!! I think Charlie was nervous too...he called Sam to tell her...maybe so she didn't make any plans after work....of course she was worried when she got home.

So, we had a scare this evening...the doctor also said that if I had difficult breathing - then go immediately to the hospital...she asked me to call again if there were anymore problems....she also said to take the benedryl and sit and relax....sure, sit and relax....was I staying home or running off to the hospital....I did a load of laundry then sat with a cool compress on and drank some more water!

I am definitely NOT looking forward to the next scan!!! (in six weeks!!!).

Other than that...all is well here. Didn't get the results of the scan today...hopefully I will have them when I go on Monday for my bloodwork...I can't believe it's cocktail no. 21 this coming Wednesday!!!

As soon as I get the results from the scan I will add it to my blog and email all!

Please keep praying that I get a really good report!!!!
